Today was Bryan’s shunt surgery. After being at the hospital since 6:30am, Dr. Manley told Ann and Dave that the surgery went smooth and the CT scan came back looking good. They were finally able to see Bryan and his eyes were open. He looked great except…you have all come to know is very particular when it comes to his hair….well, they only shaved half his head for the surgery. We’ll have to hurry and fix that before he finds out.

All morning we have been comforted and reassured by emails and Facebook posts from supporters all over the world. Prayers being said, well-wishes, etc. We have said this before, and will continue to say it….we couldn’t have made it through this without all of you.

Before March 31st, we never truly realized just how short and precious life is. We only have one, so we must make the most of it and treasure each other.

Firstly, huge hugs to you Ann and Dave. The two of you have such courageous spirits. As does, Bryan, and the rest of your family, of course. I meant in this instance, another example of you two having to endure more hours of the unkown. I am so happy to read the latest surgery went well. Did either of you or perhaps Bryan's children (in re-runs) ever watch the old show "Full House?" One of the characters on it played by John Stamos, has the nicest head of dark hair that was his pride and joy; reminded me of Bryan. When Bryan is all better, perhaps he can give me some of his trade secret tips for my own dryish brown hair. :)

One of my favorite poems is by Emily Dickinson. I'm posting it below as a more concrete, perhaps, "hug" and "thank you" to your family for allowing all of us to support you and Bryan. It is so true that life is short and sometimes we are thrown way off course by circumstance. Please never forget that myself and millions of others are in this with you for the long run, hoping and cheering, if we can helping your spirits to re-fuel as we can along the way. We. I believe always. Have a good, rest-full evening.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

I'm so happy to read that Bryan's surgery went well. I may not have posted in quite awhile, however, I have followed his progress, and will continue to do so, until that day I can read...
"Thank you everyone. It's now time for me to walk on out of here and go home..." and signed by Bryan himself.

Bless you, Bryan and bless your family - who I know have been on such an emotional rollercoaster. "Love, light and God's healing touch."

I just want to say that I am a lifelong Giants fan and I am praying for Bryan's recovery. I was a Giants' fan as a kid in New York before the Orange & Black moved to the Bay Area. My dad worked for the Giants in public relations, continuing a connection to the team that began when he delivered clean towels to the Polo Grounds locker room from a nearby hotel in the '20s. The team asked him to come to SF in 1958, but he was too much of a New Yorker to leave his home.

We have a friend on the Dodgers who played ball with my son in Little League and high school. He and my son stay in contact by text, and the Dodger said he hopes they never win a championship in LA because of the potential for fan violence. The area around the stadium is quite dangerous after a game, he says. I don't need to tell that to the Stow family, obviously. I just want you to know you're not alone. I will continue to pray for Bryan's recovery. He is one of the good guys. This should not be happening to him.

I think this will help Bryan. I feel Lik you will see a big change. I am dieing to know what knind of shunt they used just like Gabby Gilfords. I hope to see Bryan giving his success interview like she will be in November.

I about died when they shaved my hair too. But too have Bryan back it is a very low price to pay. Just keep all the mirrors away from him.lol

Tell Brian that the shaved head look is all the rage for us military guys (I'm active duty). It is a good look and you never get bed head! I am so happy to hear about his positive steps forward and will continue to pray!

Hi Bryan,

Well I could not be more positive and upbeat about this news if I tried!! This is really good news and with his eyes being opened, well the positive steps just keep coming. Yes, we all know how particular Bryan is about his hair and stuff, however I have full confidence in the sisters to help him out with this when the time is right.

The love, the prayers, the positive thoughts will continue to be sent. They will continue as I along with everyone else here are waiting to see that beautiful smile on Bryan again, we want to see him regain his life and be able to enjoy his great kids again.

C'mon Bryan, your Giants are about to start really having to defend their World Series Title.....you gotta see this.

P.S. On a much lighter note...from what I have learned about Bry and his fascination with his hair, don't you think he would love Brandon Crawford's hair? :)

Dear Dave,
I just want to let you know i am saying a special prayer for you. I don't want you to think we forgot about you.

I found this on line and though of you:
Poem: Fathers Are Wonderful People
Fathers are wonderful people
Too little understood,
And we do not sing their praises
As often as we should...

For, somehow, Father seems to be
The man who pays the bills,
While Mother binds up little hurts
And nurses all our ills...

And Father struggles daily
To live up to "his image"
As protector and provider
And "hero of the scrimmage"...

And perhaps that is the reason
We sometimes get the notion,
That Fathers are not subject
To the thing we call emotion,

But if you look inside Dad's heart,
Where no one else can see
You'll find he's sentimental
And as "soft" as he can be...

But he's so busy every day
In the grueling race of life,
He leaves the sentimental stuff
To his partner and his wife...

But Fathers are just wonderful
In a million different ways,
And they merit loving compliments
And accolades of praise,

For the only reason Dad aspires
To fortune and success
Is to make the family proud of him
And to bring them happiness...

And like Our Heavenly Father,
He's a guardian and a guide,
Someone that we can count on
To be always on our side.

I do not have the privilege to know the Stow family, however I would like to affirm his babies and wife that your daddy and husband will wake up sooner than you think therefore neither of you should give up on him and your faith because I know I'm not. I am sure that Bryan is a wonderful person, daddy, husband, son, uncle, brother and cousin resulting in a miracle. I will pray for him today and always because my heart tells me that he WILL wake up because he knows that his babies and wife need him more than anything and anyone else in the world. I might sound crazy but I know that Bryan will wake up from his sleep.

Thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers. A co-worker's son-in-law is a young marine who was injured in Afghanistan recently - he also has TBI and lost part of both legs - he's a Brian with a Bri so when I say my prayers at night I ask God for special healing for both Bryan's.

It's been a week since the shunt was put in, I pray that all has gone well and you are getting your "smoochs and love you".

Sending lots of love and warm thoughts to you all.

I am sure days like this are incredibly bittersweet, but how wonderful that you have all your strong and wonderful family around you to help with the tough times. I think of The Great Hodge and his family every day and continue to send you all love, support and strength. Of course we all saw Tyler throw out the first pitch and it was a beautiful site! We're all still thinking of you Bryan. Saying prayers for U and your family often. I still have my candle with ur ribbon on the front and it says, get well Bryan. We look forward to the updates and we look forward in seeing improvements with U. We did see your son throw out the first pitch on Giants opening day. Hello to the Stow Family and supporters,
I woke up this morning thinking about Bryan Stow, and how senseless and hurtful acts of violence have impacted you. I decided to search online for Bryan's health update and found this wonderful website. Thank you for letting us all know how Bryan is doing. I just want you to know that you have another supporter and I send my love and encouragement for your daily struggles and wins. :o)
I love seeing the videos and listening to the songs you post for Bryan. You've never given up and that is truly love in action. I will continue to look for fundraising events and other ways to support. I have donated through the website, and know that the money goes to a VERY worthy cause. God bless and know that everything will be alright. With love, Gretchen Vogel

Dear Bryan and Family,

We are students in the On Track program, a program for adults with brain injuries. We are all learning how to cope with our brain injuries, just like you are doing today.

We have traveled the same rocky road that you are traveling, DON’T GIVE UP! You are not alone, have hope. We have watched each other improve in areas that we never thought possible; we are now reading, writing, talking and finding our way through this new life. Keep trying no matter how long it takes.

From our experience we have learned that the road to recovery is tough, but it is worth the fight. The brain is incredible! Believe in yourself.

“The brain is programmed to create and we are all but children of the universe” – Eric, On Track student.

Sincerely,

The On Track Program

Hey Bryan, I didn't mean to get this behind on checking in. Greetings from the Lone Star State, and in particular, good ole HOT West Texas. Our Spring certainly didn't last long, and here we are into Summer. Have already had hundred degree plus days here and no rain. But thankfully, the tornadoes have passed us by.

It was sooooooo cool to read about your son on opening day at your home park. Good for him. He's like his daddy no doubt.I know all of your family as well as you are most proud of that day. What a wonderful memory for all time.

My son, who is with AMR in Jackson, MS, is back on the ambulance after his arm injury. He really got tired of being confined to desk duty. Hopefully the arm is 100 per cent and he doesn't injure it again any time soon.

Keep up with your therapy and know we all support you and your efforts. God's still driving your ambulance and things are moving along according to his plan. Just keep the faith.

Gentle breezes on the wings of the Angels atop the West Texas winds and to God in heaven. Georgana

Hi Stow Family,

Keep strong and carry on. Good job, Tyler!! Keep Bryan's story in the media to remind the public to pray, or to just be better human beings.
