News & Updates

Since the last update, we got word from Infectious Diseases that the infections are gone so the shunt will possibly be Tuesday. It had also been awhile since we got responses from Bryan, aside from kisses, so yesterday we were excited when he responded a few times.
When asked to raise his eyebrows if he can hear us, he raised his eyebrows. We asked him to do this twice and both times he did. Then, when trimming his nose hairs we told him we needed to see his nose, he flared his nostrils. Both times when asked. **Note from Bry's seesters: We thought filing his toenails was our limit....then came the nose hairs.
We know Bryan is getting back to the place he was a month ago, mouthing words and hopefully more and more responses.

Today being the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, we will be praying for those who lost loved ones and who were otherwise affected by the tragedy. Bryan, having wanted to be a firefighter at that time, was deeply impacted by the selflessness of the first responders of that day and really drove him to pursue a career in helping people. From what we hear from his co-workers, he is amazing and compassionate about what he does.

Even though Bry isn't a fan of country music, the song we selected is to honor those injured or who lost their lives and those who lost their loved ones.

Your love for Bryan is without limits!! Trimming his nose hairs...reading that made me laugh a little, then it brought on tears. The things we do each day that we take for granted... Now, here you all are, stepping up to the plate everyday as caregivers, doing for Bryan what he can't do for himself. Someday, he will be able to truly thank you for all those mani/pedi's, nose hair trimmings, massages, etc., etc. Bryan, you have an amazing family! I pray for your continued healing daily. Sending hugs to you and your family.

Hi Bryan & family,

Thank you for this update. Bryan might not have been as responsive as he was a few weeks ago, however he is responding to your words which is a great sign. I am thrilled to hear the infections are completely gone and the shunt has been scheduled. I appreciate and understand that it might be a little scary and very nervwrecking; however lets hope & pray that this is the last procedure and this is the one that helps Bryan really continue on his road to recovery.

On a side note, yes it has been 10 years since the day when all of us were shocked and saddened by the events. However through each individual effort, this nation overcame and became stronger. People like Bryan who became more determined to help people are the ones that truly deserve the thanks.

Please keep in touch with how the shunt procedure goes. I will be praying for a succesful procedure and Bryan's continual recovery.

Dear Stow Family,
You are beautiful people, sharing your story with us, and showing us what strength, love and perseverence look like.
I would like to share with you that I have had brain surgeries, a lumbar drain, and live life daily with a shunt - it has been a real help.
I have also spent time in unconsciousness and semiconsciousness, and while I understand, and want you to understand, that Brian's case is quite different from mine (I lingered there for only 5 days), I want to encourage you all to please, please continue to let him know that you are there with him. Continue to stimulate him, and challenge him to acknowledge and interract with you. I personally believe that it does help, very much so.
I pray that he will also bounce back once the infection is under control.
I write all this to continue to inspire you on this long and difficult road.
His story has affected me on a very personal level- it has moved me to tears of sadness, and happiness. I follow it, and pray for him to come back to us all. He is a fighter - very much so. The magnitude of the love that you show for him is SO inspiring.

So glad to know Bryan's health is stabalizing enough to go for the shunt. I do believe it will improve his quality of life immensely, making further progress obtainable. Hang in there, Stow Family! I know with you guys to come back to, he's got all the incentive he needs! Be blessed~Love and healing and hugs to Bry and the Family Stow! Bryan, I've thought of how much I appreciate all you've done to help people and it's time you relax and let it come back to you ten-fold! Keep fighting, of course, but know we have your back. Stow know we will be praying for Bryan as he has his VP place in today. I hope this bring more healing to come. I feel it will. He was doing so much and then the fluid build up. I really feel this procedure will help and you will see a difference in Bry in days to come. I will be praying for the whole family.
I do hope his kids are doing ok with the start of the new school year. They are on my mind a lot.
With lots of love

Tuesday has arrived and I'm hoping that Bryan's in surgery getting his shunt placed and the distal end secured. Let there be no complications... I don't think anyone would disagree that Bryan and the Stow family have been through enough already! My wife and I drove by SF General last week on an errand, and as usual we gave a wave in Bryan's direction and hoped that things were progressing well. Thank you again for the update, Stow family.

Ann-wishing you a very happy Mother's Day. I am sure days like this are incredibly bittersweet, but how wonderful that you have all your strong and wonderful family around you to help with the tough times. I think of The Great Hodge and his family every day and continue to send you all love, support and strength. Of course we all saw Tyler throw out the first pitch and it was a beautiful site! I know one day we will see Bryan at a game, doing the same thing. Until that day, never give up hope!!!! Much love from Forest Ranch, CA

We're all still thinking of you Bryan. Saying prayers for U and your family often. I still have my candle with ur ribbon on the front and it says, get well Bryan. We look forward to the updates and we look forward in seeing improvements with U. We did see your son throw out the first pitch on Giants opening day. Even though I'm a Dodger fan, I was still able to see this most touching event. It was also nice to see U on the big screen with your Mother. Your FOREVER in our thoughts and prayers. Take care, Bryan Stow...

Hello to the Stow Family and supporters,
I woke up this morning thinking about Bryan Stow, and how senseless and hurtful acts of violence have impacted you. I decided to search online for Bryan's health update and found this wonderful website. Thank you for letting us all know how Bryan is doing. I just want you to know that you have another supporter and I send my love and encouragement for your daily struggles and wins. :o)
I love seeing the videos and listening to the songs you post for Bryan. You've never given up and that is truly love in action. I will continue to look for fundraising events and other ways to support. I have donated through the website, and know that the money goes to a VERY worthy cause. God bless and know that everything will be alright. With love, Gretchen Vogel
(p.s. if you need help, I live in Cupertino and would be happy to lend a hand- just let me know how!)

Dear Bryan and Family,

We are students in the On Track program, a program for adults with brain injuries. We are all learning how to cope with our brain injuries, just like you are doing today.

We have traveled the same rocky road that you are traveling, DON’T GIVE UP! You are not alone, have hope. We have watched each other improve in areas that we never thought possible; we are now reading, writing, talking and finding our way through this new life. Keep trying no matter how long it takes.

From our experience we have learned that the road to recovery is tough, but it is worth the fight. The brain is incredible! Believe in yourself.

“The brain is programmed to create and we are all but children of the universe” – Eric, On Track student.

Sincerely,

The On Track Program

Hey Bryan, I didn't mean to get this behind on checking in. Greetings from the Lone Star State, and in particular, good ole HOT West Texas. Our Spring certainly didn't last long, and here we are into Summer. Have already had hundred degree plus days here and no rain. But thankfully, the tornadoes have passed us by.

It was sooooooo cool to read about your son on opening day at your home park. Good for him. He's like his daddy no doubt.I know all of your family as well as you are most proud of that day. What a wonderful memory for all time.

My son, who is with AMR in Jackson, MS, is back on the ambulance after his arm injury. He really got tired of being confined to desk duty. Hopefully the arm is 100 per cent and he doesn't injure it again any time soon.

Keep up with your therapy and know we all support you and your efforts. God's still driving your ambulance and things are moving along according to his plan. Just keep the faith.

Gentle breezes on the wings of the Angels atop the West Texas winds and to God in heaven. Georgana

Hi Stow Family,
I look forward to new updates on Bryan, no matter when you get the chance to post them. It doesn't take a website update to help me to remember Bryan's struggle, and to pray for him and all of you. Keep strong and carry on. Good job, Tyler!! Keep Bryan's story in the media to remind the public to pray, or to just be better human beings.
Love from Carleen in Vancouver WA
